Short answer
A cosmetic smile makeover is one plan that combines whatever your teeth need, usually porcelain veneers with a few crowns or a bridge, sometimes whitening, designed around your face and delivered together. Unlike a set of veneers, not every tooth gets the same restoration. At Xiluet Smiles in Miami the Smile Makeover is $6,999 for 20 restorations, three visits in one week, with a 5-year written warranty.

Smile makeover, smile design, veneers: what each word means
The terms overlap in advertising and mean different things in a treatment plan. A veneer is a single restoration, a thin ceramic shell on the front of one tooth. A smile design is the plan, drawn over your face, that decides what every visible tooth should look like; at Xiluet Smiles it is also the name of our package of 20 porcelain veneers. A smile makeover is a design carried out with whatever each tooth needs: veneers on healthy teeth, crowns on teeth with large fillings or root canals, a bridge where a tooth is missing, whitening on the teeth that stay natural.
| Smile Design | Smile Makeover | Full Mouth Restoration | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | 20 porcelain veneers | 20 restorations: veneers, crowns and bridges as each tooth needs | 28 veneers, crowns and bridges, every tooth planned together |
| Who it suits | Healthy teeth that need shape, length or color changed | Smiles with a mix: some healthy teeth, some heavily filled, one or two missing | Worn, broken or missing teeth across both arches, bite problems |
| Price at Xiluet Smiles | $5,999 | $6,999 | $10,000 |
| Time in Miami | 3 visits, one week | 3 visits, one week (rush in 3 business days: $10,000) | Two weeks |
| Warranty | 5 years, in writing | 5 years, in writing | 5 years, in writing |
The word "cosmetic" is slightly misleading, because most makeovers fix function too: a bite that wears the front teeth, a missing premolar that lets the others drift, a cracked molar that needed a crown anyway. The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry describes a smile makeover as a comprehensive process, and the comprehensive part is the point. One plan, one design, one ceramist, one week.
What a smile makeover can include
- Porcelain veneers for healthy teeth that need shape, length, alignment or color changed. About 0.3 mm of preparation, the same veneers as the Smile Design.
- Crowns for teeth with large old fillings, root canals or cracks, where a veneer would not have enough sound tooth to bond to. Done with your makeover, a crown is $500 instead of $1,000.
- Bridges to replace one or two missing teeth in the smile line, anchored to crowns on the neighbors. For more missing teeth, or a whole arch, implants are the better plan.
- Whitening for lower teeth or back teeth that stay natural, done before the design visit so the ceramic is matched to the final shade.
- Gum reshaping when the gum line is uneven or too much gum shows, a small procedure done at the preparation visit.
- A night guard afterwards for anyone who grinds, because the makeover is only as durable as the bite that lands on it.
What a makeover does not include is anything that changes where the teeth are. If the teeth are badly crowded or the bite is far off, the design visit may recommend Invisalign first, then veneers on fewer teeth. It is a slower path and sometimes a cheaper one, and a design-led clinic will tell you when it applies.
Who actually needs a makeover rather than veneers
The simplest test: look at the teeth that show when you smile broadly, usually ten on top and eight to ten below. If they are all healthy and the problems are shape, size, gaps or color, you need veneers, and the 20-veneer Smile Design is the plan. If two or three of them have large fillings, a root canal, a crack, or are missing, you need a makeover, because those teeth need crowns or a bridge and the rest need veneers, all made to one design so nobody can tell which is which.
The second group is people who have been told they need "a full mouth". Often they do not. Twenty restorations cover everything that shows and the premolars behind them; the molars at the back, if healthy, are left alone. A full mouth restoration is for worn, broken or missing teeth across both arches, where the bite itself has to be rebuilt, and it takes two weeks rather than one.
A makeover is not more veneers. It is the honest version of a smile design for a mouth that has had some dentistry already. The design is the same; the restorations follow what each tooth can carry.
How a smile makeover is planned: the design comes first
Every makeover starts the way every veneer case starts: photos from your phone, a written plan within 6 hours during office hours, and a total from the published price list. The plan says, tooth by tooth, veneer, crown or bridge, and lists anything that has to be treated first, such as a deep cleaning at $700 or a root canal at $1,000. The number you see is the number you pay unless the exam at Visit 1 finds something the photos could not show.
- Visit 1, Monday: exam and design. X-rays, cleaning, a 3D scan and photos and video of your face. The new smile is drawn over your face following your lip line, smile width and facial midline, then tried in your mouth as a mock-up. You approve it before anything is prepared. How digital smile design works.
- Visit 2, Tuesday: preparation. Veneer teeth get about 0.3 mm of preparation; crown teeth get the preparation they already need; a bridge site is prepared on the neighbors. Temporaries in the approved design go on the same day.
- Wednesday: the lab. One floor up, the ceramist mills veneers, crowns and bridge units from the same multilayer zirconia so the shade and translucency match across the arch, then finishes each by hand.
- Visit 3, Thursday: delivery. Try-in with the ceramist present, bonding and cementation, bite adjustment, the written 5-year warranty. Out-of-state patients fly home that evening.
The reason a makeover can be done in a week is the same reason a veneer set can: the lab is in the building and the design was settled before the drill. Rush delivery in three business days is possible for $10,000, but most patients prefer the Wednesday off.
What a smile makeover costs
Published US ranges for a smile makeover run from about $5,000 for whitening and a few veneers to $30,000 or more for a full mouth with implants, and most quotes are built à la carte: so many veneers at one price, so many crowns at another, plus the design fee. Comparing them is hard because every quote covers a different number of teeth.
| At Xiluet Smiles | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Smile Makeover, 20 restorations | $6,999 | Veneers, crowns and bridges as each tooth needs; cleaning and X-rays; 5-year warranty |
| Same, rush delivery in 3 business days | $10,000 | For patients who cannot stay the week |
| Extra crown or bridge unit with your makeover | $500 | 50% off the à la carte $1,000 |
| Deep cleaning, if your gums need it | $700 | Done before the design visit |
| Root canal, if a tooth needs it | $1,000 | On the plan before you book |
| Night guard | $400 | Recommended if you grind |
Monthly plans are available through six financing partners with a soft credit check, and a $250 deposit, applied to your treatment, holds the three visits. For comparison with the cost of 20 veneers alone, read how much a full set of veneers costs. The Smile Makeover page has the package in full.
How to judge a makeover before you commit
- Ask to see the design on your own face, not a stock smile. A makeover planned from a catalog looks like a catalog.
- Ask which teeth are veneers and which are crowns, and why. A plan that crowns healthy front teeth is taking more tooth than it needs.
- Ask what the restorations are made of, and whether the veneers, crowns and bridges come from the same material and the same ceramist. Mixed materials from different labs are the usual reason one tooth looks different from the rest.
- Ask for the warranty in writing, and what it expects of you. Ours is five years and expects normal care and a night guard if you grind.
- Ask how many visits and where the lab is. Three visits in a week is possible with an in-house lab; a month with an outside one is normal and not a red flag, but you should know which you are getting.
If you want to know whether your smile needs a makeover or just veneers, send three photos through the free photo evaluation. The plan comes back tooth by tooth, with the total, and the design visit decides the rest.
Related questions
What is the difference between a smile makeover and veneers?
Veneers are one kind of restoration. A smile makeover is a plan that uses whatever each tooth needs, usually veneers on healthy teeth plus crowns or a bridge on teeth with large fillings, root canals or gaps, all made to one design. If every visible tooth is healthy, you need veneers; if some are not, you need a makeover.
How much does a cosmetic smile makeover cost?
At Xiluet Smiles the Smile Makeover is $6,999 for 20 restorations, veneers, crowns and bridges as needed, with cleaning, X-rays and a 5-year written warranty included. Published US ranges run from about $5,000 to $30,000 or more depending on how many teeth and whether implants are involved. Your written estimate from photos gives the exact total before you book.
How long does a smile makeover take?
Three visits in one week at Xiluet Smiles: design on Monday, preparation and temporaries on Tuesday, delivery on Thursday, with the lab working one floor up on Wednesday. Rush delivery in three business days is available for $10,000. A full mouth restoration of 28 teeth takes two weeks.
Can a smile makeover include missing teeth?
One or two missing teeth in the smile line, yes, with a bridge anchored to crowns on the neighbors, made in the same material as the veneers. Several missing teeth, or a whole arch, are better replaced with implants, which are planned separately and take longer because the bone needs to heal.
Does a smile makeover look natural?
It should, and the design visit is where that is decided. The new smile is drawn over your own face, following your lip line and proportions, and tried in your mouth before any tooth is prepared. Veneers, crowns and bridges are made from the same zirconia by the same ceramist, so one tooth does not stand out from the rest.
Is a smile makeover painful?
The preparation visit is done under local anesthetic. Veneer teeth lose about 0.3 mm of enamel, which has no nerve endings; crown teeth usually already have fillings or root canals and are prepared the same way any crown is. Patients describe the week as long rather than painful, and sensitivity afterwards settles in a few days.
